Greater efficiency for lignite power plants
It is not only in Germany that lignite-derived electricity generation continues to be backed in a big way. But this fuel has a lower calorific value than coal on account of its high moisture content. That is why power plant operators and plant constructors are relying on lignite pre-drying to raise the efficiency in future up to 50 %.
In view of its numerous and varied references, Hitachi Power Europe has acquired extensive expertise in the construction of dry lignite-fired steam generators. Our firing technology and corresponding components (e.g. burner, pulverizers, de-ashers) are all being continuously improved upon. Furthermore we are developing drying processes for lignite in conjunction with power plant operators. However, these processes must firstly be tested as to operating efficiency and availability on the commercial scale. It is only after this kind of trial that the next generation of highly efficient lignite power plants can be fitted out with them. |
